I believe in seeking out sustainable solutions through event planning and delivery at the community level that help contribute to a shared global responsibility. Some of the highlighted projects I have completed include: Planned and executed the largest public engagement in St. Albert's history (7,000 people) which represents about 10% of our population. There were several events (approximately 15 to 20) smaller events planned and executed to gather the input and celebrate with the community (all done with a sustainability focus) Large scale music festivals Flash mob to increase awareness about water conservation Zero Waste events Behaviour change campaigns communicated through sustainability community events Unique and creative public engagement events that spur community connection and conversation I also believe in creating comprehensive event reports so that the successes and lessons learned can be incorporated for other upcoming events. Shawna McKinley

In-house Sustainability Manager Consultant Location: North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Years experience in sustainable event practice: 12 Website: greendestinations.blogspot.ca Email: shawnamckinley @ gmail.com Details of experience: Over the last decade I've had the fortune to play in many different event sustainability sandboxes in the corporate, technology, tourism & travel, sport and association sectors. This has involved working with internal and agency event teams in different corners of the globe who are planning events of diverse scope and scale - from a few dozen to tens of thousands of participants. I relish learning about the unique challenges their event or event company is experiencing, and lending support to provide both proven as well as new and innovate sustainability solutions that respond to their individual situation. These solutions often involve working across internal departments and with groups outside the event organization and are driven to produce measurable results. I'm proudest when I see my event clients go on to win media and award recognition for their efforts. Most recently I've been inspired by the opportunity for events to influence attendees to make better choices for themselves, their communities and the planet. This led to the creation of a mobile application based-event sustainability game for EventCamp Vancouver which engaged attendees in fun, simple acts of 'green' that reduced impacts while creating social good. "Get Your Green On" became the winner of the 2012 IMEX Commitment to Community Award. I've contributed to the creation and roll-out of event sustainability standards, including participation in the Canadian Mirror Committee for ISO 20121. I enjoy sharing stories--many of them self-deprecating--in event sustainability via my personal blog, which...
